A study of the intermediate and brief forms that wood takes amidst fire. Burning wood is removed from the fire and photographed at different stages of combustion. Like fossils found in an archaeological excavation, burning wood is undergoing a transformational process, except at a rapid rate. After being examined, organised and photographed, the wood is returned to the fire to complete its combustion.
